2013 Standard Flower Show: Wild About Birds
The Colorado Garden & Home Show features a 2013 Standard Flower Show, presented by the Colorado Federation of Garden Clubs annually, and this year’s theme is Wild About Birds. The juried competition of more than 60 creative displays, floral arrangements and designs creatively interpret, celebrate and demonstrate the influence that birds have in our lives.
The show features three divisions: Horticulture: “In Fine Feather;” Design: “Birds-Eye View;” and Special Exhibits: “Spread Your Wings.” Each division has different rules and requirements for the exhibitors; for example, all horticulture exhibits must be developed from fresh plant material grown by the exhibitor. Some of this year’s featured entries are named “As Pretty as a Peacock,” “Bird Watchers’ Brunch,” “As Wise as an Owl,” and “Friendship & Feathers,” just to name a few.
Exhibitors will be honored with the following top awards: Arboreal Award, Award of Merit, Award for Horticultural Excellence, Grower’s Choice Award, Designer’s Choice Award, Petite Award, Club Competition Award, Educational Award, Artistic Crafts Award, Sweepstakes Award, Judges Council Award and the Colorado Garden Show Director’s Award.
There is no additional fee to visit the flower show on the show floor and some entries will change on Feb. 13. Visit often to see extraordinary designs and displays that are sure to inspire creativity at home.
The Colorado Federation of Garden Clubs is dedicated to educating the gardening public and encouraging visitors to use their creativity in trying fresh design approaches at home. For more information, please visit www.ColoradoGardenClubs.org.
