Eclectically Designed Cakes Showcase “Aviation” Theme
The Colorado Garden & Home Show again features a competition of eclectically designed cakes. The theme for this year’s extravagant cake categories is “Aviation.” The juried competition is presented by the Colorado Chapter of the International Cake Exploration Societé (ICES), and takes place at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 9. The cakes will be on display for two days only – Feb. 9 and 10 – and are located in the upper lobby next to the show’s main entrance. ICES is the largest cake decorating club in the world with approximately 4,000 members whose mission is sharing their interest in sugar artistry.
General competition categories include:
Cakes for kids—Any cake meant for a child’s celebration
Holiday cakes—Holiday-themed cakes such as Valentine’s Day, Easter, Independence Day, Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, etc.
Celebration cakes—Cakes meant for bridal, baby, and wedding showers; anniversaries; birthdays; etc.
Tiered cakes—Cakes that are stacked
Special competitions include:
Tasting Competition—Cakes are judged on taste using Cubeb Berries and Sliced Crystallyzed Ginger
Confections Competition—Decorated cake pops
The Extravagant Cakes—Extravagant cakes where sticking with the Colorado Garden & Home Show’s theme will be rewarded
The competition is chaired by ICES Member Linda Cloutier, and supported by a handful of volunteer ICES members.
